Located 22 kilometers to the southeast of Palakkad town is the pristine village of Kollengode. In the 19th century, Kollengode, known as Vengunadu, boasted a vibrant history of Old Malabar and a rich cultural tradition. The Vishnu Temple and the poet P. Kunjiraman Nair Memorial are both worth visiting. Additionally, the nearby Seetharkundu and Govindamala Hills offer ideal opportunities for trekking.
In Traditional
Once the capital of the erstwhile Kollengode Rajas, this town derives its name from the Kollen blacksmith community that resides here. The town is situated between the scenic Nelliyampathy Hills on one side and vast fertile paddy fields on the other. Meandering through the town is the Gayathri River, a tributary of the Bharathapuzha.
The magnificent Kollengode Palace stands as a prime example of traditional Kerala architectural style.
